The Walk
We are as babes, we must learn to walk. We begin on our knees (a perfect place to start) and we start moving, trying to follow our Lord. First we drag ourselves along, but soon we are crawling. As everyone familiar with babies know, this is when the trouble starts. Like babies, we get into everything, often going in wrong directions. This can be dangerous, we can quickly hurt ourselves or others, so we must be watched, nurtured, protected, and disciplined.
Given time, and loving nurture, we begin to grow stronger. Anything we can get hold of allows us to pull ourselves up and stand. Again, we must be careful. Some things we grasp are not sure, and, though they seem true, they give way and we tumble and fall. But the loving arms of our Lord are there to pick us up, and clean us off. Soon we are off crawling again.
After many falls, bumps, and bruises, we confidently stand (holding tight to our favorite brace). We look around, dance for joy, but always holding tight lest we fall. We have learned to discern what will hold us and what is failing and false, so we have gained confidence as we stand. We see our Father, His arms extended in Love, but we are not ready to let go of our brace. We go to Him, but fearing to walk, we crawl.
Our Lord reaches down and takes our hand. We know this is our truest brace. He will always hold us up. Even if our little legs can no longer hold our weight, and we completely collapse, still He holds us. We will never fall with His Hand in ours. Now we can walk, one foot in front of the other, at times legs tied in knots, but always held up by the hand of our Lord. And always guided in the right direction, even if we turn to the right or the left, our path continues forward.
We walk with the Hand of our Lord held tightly in our own. Step by step, we grow closer to our Father, His arms still outstretched in Love. Our Lord has walked this walk, He guides us, strengthens us. By His strength, not our own, we at last reach our goal as Jesus places our small hand in the Hand of our GOD, and we stand at last, held in the arms of our Father.
Jesus walked the walk, we must follow. His is the true path, the only Way to our Father. Through His power we walk, a stumbling, faltering walk. But the more we rely on Him, and follow his lead, the better we walk. He is our strength and our guide, we learn to walk by following Him. Follow your Lord, even if that path leads to persecution and even death, follow Him. His is the only path to our Father.
