EVANESCENCE : "Bring Me To Life"What is salvation? Is it something we strive for, something we earn? No, it is a gift. This song by Evanescence says it beautifully. I don't think it was written with salvation and grace in mind, but as I always say: the Holy Spirit moves in mysterious ways. In essence it is a love song. In essence The Song of Solomon in the Old Testament is a love song. Our relationship with God is at heart a love story: the greatest love story ever told. I have been in some dark places in my life. Totally lost, totally alone, totally numb. But God reached out and brought me back. It was not something I was looking for at the time, not something I did, it was grace. God, in his love for me, reached into the pit and rescued me. At those times I was not able to seek Him, I didn't have the strength or will. Salvation is nothing that we do, it is what God does for us. We serve him, sure. Faith without works is dead. But that is not how we get to heaven. We love God because he first loved us. He reaches down into the place where we are, even into the depths of the pit, and he touches us. Sometimes we may not even want to be saved, we have sunken too deep in our own despair to even care anymore. We may even hide from him, but that's okay, God still cares. He doesn't abandon us even when we abandon ourselves. He reaches out and brings us back. He brings us back to life. EVANESCENCE LYRICS"Bring Me To Life" |
