BarlowGirl : Never Alone

This video, by Barlow Girl, has been a great inspiration to me and sums up my simple faith in GOD. GOD is who and what He is. He never leaves us or abandons us, He is always there even when we can not see or feel Him. Actually it is those times when we can not feel His presence that He is closest, holding us through the rough times when our faith is weakest. When we feel totally lost and abandoned all we have left is that simple assurance that He is there.

That is hard sometimes. We feel like He has abandoned us in the midst of the storm. What we want is some sign, something we can see, touch, feel. Something to let us know that He is there. But all we have at those times is Faith in the unseen. Something deep within us that tells us He is still there. It's something that can not be explained, but only experienced. To just KNOW that GOD is there, without any sign, against all instinct. The old folks called it "Blessed assurance".

There is an old poem called "Footprints" that tells a story of a man going back through his life and seeing footprints in the sand. For most of his life there are two sets, his and the Lords, walking side by side. But in the hardest times there is only one set and the man askes why. Did the the Lord leave him in those times? No, he is told that in those times the Lord carried him. That is what we hold on to.

Faith is simple, not some formula handed down through generations that must be followed. It is a personal and intimate relationship with our creator. No one can teach you faith, nothing can give you faith, it grows out of trust, experience, and a close day to day relationship. We know He is there because He has always been there. It is trust in someone we know intimately and who knows us better than we know ourselves. We can not rely on the "faith of our fathers", or the church, to hold us in our darkest hour. When everything else fails all that is left is that personal one-on-one relationship with GOD himself.
