Papa Roach : Last ResortI originally had the video below posted with my article on teen suicide. That article was written and posted after I lost someone close to me. The song “Contemplating Suicide” by Papa Roach has always touched me deeply but even more so in the wake of that tragedy. The song is intense. It is a raw look into the heart, mind, and emotions of someone on the verge of suicide. The language is harsh, but so are the emotions. If you want to see and feel what someone in that state of mind is going through crank it up, but be warned. The emotions are raw and violent. This is not a “Christian” song. You may find it highly offensive. That is why I changed the link on the original article. There is no message of hope here, no redemption, only despair. I posted the video to show those emotions, to help someone who has never been there understand what it is like. I've been there, I've felt it before, I guess that's why this song has always touched me the way it does. It gives voice to feelings that can't be expressed, as only music can. Try not to be offended by the words and just feel the emotions expressed. I have never heard anyone express them so well. If you have been there, or are there now, don't let this video trigger thoughts of despair. There is hope, there is a tomorrow. It helps to recognize and accept the feelings but don't let them overwhelm you. Like Three Days Grace said in their song, it is never too late. Each new day brings new possibilities. Sometimes we just have to hang on and ride it out. That doesn't mean denying what you feel but don't let the feelings destroy you. Our emotions are powerful things and some of use feel them more intensely. When you are in the midst of the storm sometimes all you can do is hang on. Some people wonder why God lets us suffer the pain at all. Why doesn't he do something? One of my favorite Contemporary Christian songs, by Scott Krippayne, says, “sometimes he calms the storm but other times he calms his child.” That is so true. In the midst of our despair God may not make it all go away like we want him to, but he is there holding us. That is the nature of faith. When we do survive, and we look back to see how God brought us through, then we have faith that he will hold us tight through the next storm. With each trial we become stronger and stronger in our faith that he is there with us. You may not feel it in the midst of your sorrow but God is there, not just holding you but suffering every emotion you are feeling. Trust and just stand. If you can't stand, fall into his arms, he will catch you. There is hope in each new day. |
